Community Support Services

In 1991 Barnardo's opened Blackford Brae School in Edinburgh to provide 24 day places for primary aged children with Social Emotional and Behavioural Needs (SEBN). A key element of the provision was a Family Support Service working in partnership with the school and parents to achieve sustainable change and support the successful re-integration of pupils back into mainstream education. The high level of re-integration and sustained positive outcomes for 50% of pupils over the next 7 years was attributed to a systemic approach to the work with children, families and schools.
